The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation

Since 1972, The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) has been one of the nation's leading philanthropic organizations committed exclusively to improving health. In alignment with their mission of improving the health and health care of all Americans, the RWJF provides funds for a range of projects including demonstration, educational and research activities. Grantmaking activities focus on three core areas:

  • 1) access to basic health care;
  • 2) improved care and support to individuals with chronic health conditions;
  • 3) promotion of health and prevention of disease through harm-reduction efforts specifically related to tobacco, alcohol and drugs. For more information about grant activities, visit their web site at

As an additional resource to inform the public about the status of health and priority areas in the field of community health, the RWJF also publishes written information about healthcare. The most recent publication, "To Improve Health and Healthcare 200" provides communities and healthcare organizations with information on the impact of health programs and lessons learned. This resource can be used to develop new practices or to modify existing work already happening within wellness villages. For more information on this book and other healthcare resources visit:
